The most common injuries caused by falls on the playground are to the wrist and elbow, Dr. Carl Weinert, a CHOC orthopaedic surgeon, tells “American Health Journal.”
It’s possible to sustain these injuries no matter how hard or soft the playground surface, says Dr. Weinert, adding that wearing wrist guards and elbow and knee pads can help protect children.

Carl Weinert, M.D. completed his undergraduate, medical, and orthopaedic education at the University of Pittsburgh. He established the first pediatric orthopaedic practice in Orange County. As a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCI, he has trained hundreds of orthopaedic and pediatric residents, medical students, nurses, physical therapists, and pre-med college students.
